Peripheral Neuropathy

CIDP (Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy)
Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is an immune-mediated neuropathy characterized by progressive or relapsing motor-sensory dysfunction due to demyelination of peripheral nerves. The disease typically evolves over >8 weeks and leads to symmetrical limb weakness, sensory impairment, gait imbalance, and reduced reflexes.
*CIDP is treatable, but requires early recognition to prevent irreversible axonal loss.*

Guillain–Barré syndrome
Guillain-Barré syndrome is named after French neurologists Georges Guillain, Jean-Alexandre Barré, and André Strohl, who described the syndrome in soldiers during World War I (1916). Strohl’s name is often omitted historically, even though he contributed electromyography findings to the original paper.
